What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontic treatment is the gentle movement of irregular or protruding teeth in order to improve the appearance and bite of the teeth. It can also help to maintain the long term health of teeth and gums. Orthodontic treatment is generally best carried out in children and young adults, but it is also possible for adults to have orthodontic treatment too — as well as improving appearance this procedure can also increase chewing ability and improve speech.

Why have Orthodontic Treatment?

Many people have teeth that are crowded or crooked. Orthodontic treatment can be used to straighten teeth, which not only improves their appearance but makes the teeth easier to clean. Crowded teeth are also known to be more prone to tooth decay and gum disease.

Some patients have upper teeth that stick out and can look unsightly — these prominent teeth can easily be damaged by accident, particularly during childhood. Therefore correcting these problems can significantly improve long term dental health.

"My son is having orthodontic treatment at the surgery. He was initially nervous about it but the staff and the orthodontist were very reassuring and gave him the confidence to wear his braces. His treatment is coming along brilliantly and the results are great!"
